Can you dig it? - October Update

Thursday, October 11, 2018

Welcome to October. We’ll see if we ever decide to have fall or just move right into winter. That said, we’ve got football, playoff baseball and NHL hockey - full on trifecta of awesome. In the classroom, things are flying and we’re having an awesome time. Here’s an overview of what’s coming down the pipe.

Important Dates

Tuesday Mornings (7:40-8:40am), October 2 - December 19 - Grade 5 Code Club

Wednesday, October 17th - Photo Residency

Go Time - September Update

Friday, September 7, 2018

TGIF! Even though the summer is over, football is back, Major League Baseball is heating up for playoffs (sadly without my Jays anywhere near joining the party) and I've kicked off another year of adventures in grade five. More importantly… We all survived the first week of school!  I just wanted to give you all an update on some of the things we will be doing in the coming weeks. Going forward, you can expect to get one of these larger updates about once a month,...

Finish Line Approaching - April Update

Friday, April 6, 2018

April is exciting. Major League Baseball is back and (apparently) spring is supposed to start (not sure what is going on with that one though…) With Spring Break behind us we’re in the final push to the end of the year. We’ve got lots to do and it’s going to be one heck of a ride. Here’s a quick run down of what we have going on.

Important Dates

Wednesday, April 18th – Spirit Day (Crazy Hair Day)

Thursday, April 19th – Fun Lunch...

Feeling the Love? - February Update

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

What a ride. Hard to believe that not even a month ago we were on our winter break. What holiday? What sleeping in? What unbelievable powder at Big White and Silverstar? I was planning on sending this out yesterday but ended up too angry at Frolik for shooting the puck at our own goalie, leading to 3 goals in 53 seconds for a loss. I had to breathe and pace and not say angry things. Anyways, here is your February update, as well as a Term 1 update from Phys. Ed,...

Hold On Tight - November Update

Wednesday, November 8, 2017

So this is some real math coming at you… we’re looking at 13.5 more days of school until Mr. Polsky will be at the Canada Day Blue Jays game against the Red Sox. WE are excited. I guess that also means we’re looking at 13.5 days until I have to say goodbye to this fantastic group of student - seriously my least favourite part of the year. Anyways… moving on before we get mushy and sentimental... June kicked off at a furious pace and we just finished the best week...

Kick Off - September Update

Monday, September 11, 2017

So it's the best time of year. Even though the summer is over, football is back, Major League Baseball is heating up for playoffs and I've kicked off another year of adventures in grade five. We all survived the first week together and I just wanted to give you all an update on some of the things we will be doing in the coming weeks. Going forward, you can expect to get one of these larger updates about once a month, usually at beginning of the month, so that we...

Tick Tock - June Update

Bring on the Madness - March Update

Thursday, March 16, 2017

So the Flames’ win streak is over, sadly, but that’s okay because we keep winning here at school (cheesy, I know, but just let me have it). It’s been a wild ride lately and I apologize for not getting an update out to you all sooner. Thank you all for your support over the last few weeks. Between the Hitmen ‘Be Brave’ Anti-bullying hockey game, followed the next day with a trip to the Glenbow Museum, from Alien In-Line Skating, Fish Creek Idol, March Madness, take...

It’s a Bigly New Year - January Update

Thursday, January 19, 2017

Can’t stop. Won’t stop. We’re back at it and no joke, it’s almost February. There’s not an ounce of quit in the students and we’re flying. In all areas, we’re busy learning and kicking butt (thats a technical term). With the weather having finally taken a turn for the nicer, while you’re getting the first sunburn of the year, take a little read below to see what we’re up to in the crazy world of grade 5.

Merry Force Be With You - December Update

Monday, December 5, 2016

We’ve almost made it - just 9 more days of school. It’s been a crazy few weeks that have seen the students busting their butts in all different areas and in a few short days we’ll all have a well deserved break. Thank you to all of you who took the time to meet with me during conferences. I enjoyed catching up with you all and being able to share the work your child has been doing these past few months. With the Winter Break staring us down at the end of next week...

Goons to Goblins - October Update

Monday, October 24, 2016

Hard to imagine it’s been almost two months of Grade 5. It’s busy, messy, crazy times in room 5 and it’s only going to get wilder. With the Jays having sadly finished their second postseason push in as many years, and now that my heart-rate and stress levels have return to normal as a result, I wanted to pass along a larger, more in-depth update to you all.

Having now finished our look and practise...

It's Bat Flip Time - September Update

Thursday, September 22, 2016

The month is Goins, Goins, Gone! Honestly it’s pretty insane to think we’re closing in on the end of September already. What a ride it’s been so far though. I’m pumped to once again have a fantastic group of students to work with and learn alongside this year. I’ve been wanting to send out a full, proper welcome/update like this for ages and so I apologize it didn’t happen until now. I try to send these larger updates out once a month, near the beginning of the...

Day 167 - June Update

Sunday, June 5, 2016

We’ve survived 167 days of school and so far, there’ve been no catastrophes, explosions (we’ve been close a few times) or broken bones (well... we’ll just ignore those because they’re long stories). So I call that a success! Seriously though, what a ride. We’re now left with only 14.5 days of school until we’re done and that’s insane. What happened?!

I’ve been wanting to send out a full, proper update like this for ages and in writing it now, I just realized...

...and Breathe - March Update

Friday, March 4, 2016

Wow. What a ride. The last month and a half have been intense, non-stop and awesome all at the same time. Let me just say I’ve had no issues falling asleep lately - out cold every night. From the excitement and passion of Innovation Week, to the field trip to the Glenbow Museum, from the Multicultural Feast to our very own Carnaval de Québec, it’s been an awesome couple weeks. February started and ended before I could blink twice. Looking ahead, March will be no...

Welcome Back - January Update

Monday, January 11, 2016

I hope you all had a great holiday and are having an awesome start to the new year. We hit the ground running and barely skipped a beat with the ongoing work. We’ve got some really great things planned for the coming months and I am genuinely pumped for it all. I’ll keep this update brief so I’ll just get right down to it. Psych!...Sorry... before I forget, I just wanted to remind you all that report cards will be coming home on Jan. 29.

Mustache You a Question - November Update

Monday, November 2, 2015

Well we survived another Halloween and I was pleased to see that the class wasn’t wired beyond belief from all the sugar they had over the weekend. That could be a coincidence or a result of more vicious methods - such as their parents raiding the bounty - either way, I was okay with it. I know that personally, when I was growing up, my dad explained that he is/was the tax man and that for safety reasons, he had to eat all the Rocket candies and O’Henry bars - seemed...

#ComeTogether - October Update

Sunday, October 4, 2015

What a ride. I want to apologize in advance for any shenanigans caused by the insanity that this month is going to be. I mean really, the Blue Jays are in the playoffs for the first time in 21 years, NHL hockey finally starts again this week and we can once again yell at the TV with NFL football. At some point I promise we will do some school work. All jokes aside, while they may have Donaldson, Bautista, Encarnacion, Price, Stroman, Tulowitzki and other ‘Beasts...

Y'all ready for this? - September Update

Monday, September 7, 2015

Cruisin’ down the hall in my 6-4...Alright, alright.. what I’m trying to say is something along the lines of “Yeehaw, we survived the first week!” How’d I do? All jokes aside, welcome to Grade 5. This is going to be an awesome year and I am looking forward to all the adventures (and shenanigans) that come with it. We’ve got a great group and have already begun curricular work, there’s no slacking off in the fifth grade! I wanted to reach out to you all for a couple...
