We did it! We survived the first month! September has been a great month with many events and activities. Not only that but NHL hockey is back, the Blue Jays are in the playoffs and the Giants have actually won a football game - incredible! How amazing is September :) Seriously though, thank you all for joining us at the open house two weeks ago. It was a great success and so fantastic to meet our parent community. I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of you...

We’re a full wagon of a team and I can’t wait for a long playoff run. GO FLAMES GO. That said, we’re flying here in grade five with all kinds of things happening. We survived Outdoor School and I think we’ve all recovered from the lack of sleep. Here’s what we have coming up this month in the wild world of grade five.

New Year, New You(ish) - January Update

Happy Friday! We made it through the first week post winter break and I think everyone was really, really excited to be back. At the same time, this whole ‘waking up early and on time’ thing is really hard. Adulting isn’t what it’s made out to be. That said, a genuine and full thank you for ensuring that your child has been coming to school all masked up and healthy.

Oh So Jolly - December Update

Welcome to (maybe?) the craziest month of the year where everything seems to be happening at once and everyone’s busy all the time. Oh but don’t forget to be calm and festive and polite to Aunt Susan (we all have one) when she serves that aweful jellied salad again (bleh). Anyways…. it’s December and we’re looking at under 3 weeks until we wrap up 2021 - which I think we are all okay to see in the rearview mirror. That said, we have less than 10 days to winter break!...

These are the Days - November Update

Hard to argue with these fall nights. You’ve got Northern Lights, cool evenings and sun on your face in the morning. Also, you did it, you survived Halloween and while I know you’re all likely still enjoying the spoils of your childs Trick or Treating, I was hoping to peal your attention away for a few moments to pass along the November update. It’s a busy month and we’ve lots going on so here’s a quick run down of what to expect.

Party Rockin' - October Update

The Blue Jays may have lost and it may be getting colder now but we’ll manage just fine I guess since we have good ol’ hockey back now. Here at school we’ve managed to survive an entire month together and it seemed like just a few days ago that I was trying to learn people’s names. Personally this is the fastest I’ve ever learned names (less than a week!!) since I’ve become a little notorious in the school for being brutal with names. That said, once I’ve got the...

Straight outta Summer - September Update

We’re back at it and fully up and running. Hard to complain about the start of the year as it’s been about as smooth as you could hope. We’re fully into curriculum and it’s been great to have some of the small things “back” that we took for granted pre-COVID - like playing together as a grade or physically going to the library and music room. Who would have thought that would be legitimately exciting? Here’s a run down on what we’re up to and what you can look forward...

May the 4th Be With You - May Update

The force is strong in you… indeed. Happy Star Wars Day! While the Flames have increasingly less chances of making it to the playoffs - big shock there amirite? - we keep rolling here at school. Goodbye Mr. Freeze - March Update

Happy Monday and welcome to some well deserved nice weather - finally! I personally have been dying to get back into my workshop and build more things and so now that it isn’t negative one billion degrees, it's buildin’ time! February was a super fast month packed with awesome moments - like when it was cold enough for boiling water to freeze instantly when thrown in the air or our ‘Dress Like a Teacher Day’ where I spent the day surrounded by mini-me’s and it was...

Awesomeness - February Update

Welcome to February! It’s a short(ish) month in terms of school days with the Family Day Long Weekend, but that’s not stopping us from flying at a crazy pace. Between coding workshops, video calls with our sailor aboard HMCS Calgary, working on our Awesome Writing projects and dominating the world of multiplication and division, we barely have time to breathe. Not only that but we have a full month of Flames games! Everything is awesome. Here’s a run down of what...

New Year, New You - January Update

Sorry for the late update. Here’s the haps for January! I’d planned on getting this out yesterday but I was so excited by the Flames game and then too frustrated after it that, because I’m just a Man Child, I was unable to work after the game. Maybe one day I’ll grow up. Maybe. So yes, I know the image says “Game Day” but pretend you’re reading this yesterday. :)

Merry KrisMask - December Update

Welcome to December. We’re two weeks away from a much deserved and well earned break. Also, what a week we just had - particularly with yesterday’s unfortunate accident. I’m grateful to hear that Pepper the Dog is doing well and is expected to recover. With the students having witnessed that, I’m just glad I was with them and able to take the time to debrief it. Anyways, with that great news we can rip right into the weekend and the awesomeness that we’ve got planned...

Bring on the Madness - April Update

It’s PLAYOFF time! The Flames are top dogs and it’s going to be an awesome April. The C of Red is rising and I couldn’t be more excited. Between that how awesome the school year has been I’d have to say that this are very thumbs up right now (we just need the Blue Jays to get that memo too so if someone can help me out with that, I’d mighty appreciate it). I can’t believe we are into the last three months of school. The year has flown by and we’re coming in on the...

Back to Reality - February Update

I have to say after spending 12 Days in Grenada it was very hard to return to the real world. Thank you to each of you that reached out before and after the break, it was simply the greatest time ever. On the Monday I was back, the students were very excted and asked to see photos and videos from the wedding and Grenada. It was a lot of fun sharing that. I also have to say that the marriage advice each of them wrote for me was amazing - some serious gems in there....

Go Time - September Update

TGIF! Even though the summer is over, football is back, Major League Baseball is heating up for playoffs (sadly without my Jays anywhere near joining the party) and I've kicked off another year of adventures in grade five. More importantly… We all survived the first week of school!  I just wanted to give you all an update on some of the things we will be doing in the coming weeks. Going forward, you can expect to get one of these larger updates about once a month,...
